Change IP

A proxy keeps its host, port, username and password when its IP changes. Some proxies change IP on their own timer, and some can also change on request. This page shows which proxies do what, the three ways to get a new IP now, and how long you wait between changes.

How each proxy changes IP#

Proxy Automatic On request
Rotating datacenter and ISP On the timer you choose for the proxy Yes, with a short wait. Get new IP button, Change-IP link, or API
Static datacenter and ISP None. The IP stays the same One new IP a week. Get new IP button, or API
Mobile Private Device On the timer you choose for the proxy Yes, once a minute. Get new IP button, or Change-IP link
Mobile Shared On the timer of its city and carrier No button or link. Change the proxy's location or carrier instead
Pay-per-GB A new IP per request, or the same IP for a sticky session Start a new sticky session. See Pay-per-GB proxy parameters

Get a new IP now#

A rotating datacenter or ISP proxy and a Private Device have three ways to change IP right now. They make the same change, so use the one that fits. They are listed here in the order the dashboard shows them.

Get new IP button#

Press Get new IP on the proxy's row in My proxies. No code or link is needed.

On a rotating datacenter or ISP proxy the new IP is always different from the current one and stays in the proxy's saved location. A proxy whose row says "Outside your location" gets one in its saved location if one is free there, otherwise in the same state or elsewhere in the US. The automatic timer restarts after the change. New connections use the new IP within a few seconds; open connections keep the old IP until they reconnect. If the page says "No other IP in this location right now", nothing changed: try again later.

A static datacenter or ISP proxy has the same button once a week.

On the proxy's row, press Change IP by link next to Get new IP. It shows the proxy's Change-IP link with Copy, Reset and Docs. The link changes the IP without signing in, so you can open it in a browser, save it as a bookmark, or paste it into an app's "change IP URL" field. It works for rotating datacenter and ISP proxies and for Private Devices. The API returns it as rotateUrl.

A link opened as a page in a browser tab shows a short page in your language that says what happened. Any other client gets JSON: curl, scripts, and apps. Change-IP link lists every JSON answer. Add &format=json to the link to always get JSON, for example in an app that drives a real browser.

Anyone who has the link can change your IP, so treat it like a password. Don't paste it into chats: link previews open the address and change the IP.

API#

Developers can call POST /api/v1/tokens/{tokenId}/new-ip with an API key. It covers datacenter and ISP proxies only. A Private Device is not in the API's new-ip; use its Change-IP link. The request, its errors, and the static weekly rule are in New IP.

Waits#

  • Rotating datacenter and ISP. Two manual changes on one proxy must be at least the shortest value in the token's rotation.options apart, whether you use the button, the link, or the API. A request inside that wait is refused with the time to retry. "No other IP in this location right now" changes nothing, and the wait still applies.
  • Private Device. Once a minute. The proxy may be unavailable for about 20 seconds while the phone changes IP.
  • Static datacenter and ISP. Once a week.

Reset next to the link issues a new link after you confirm. The old link stops working at once, so update it wherever you pasted it. The proxy's username and password stay the same.

Reset the link if you shared it by mistake or pasted it into a chat.
